Spring has Sprung in MTL
Spring is actually here in Montreal as of yesterday! The temperatures are above 10 degrees and I am seeing people in dresses without tights (I think its still too cool to be without tights, but that's just me).
As its starting to warms it will actually be nice weather to adventure around this amazing city.
Atwater market will be opening its outside area soon. So get on your bike or rent a bixi and take a ride along the canal to the market and spend the morning or afternoon if its been a rough night. Soon enough the vegetables will be perfectly fresh, so you don't need to worry about buying over priced food at your local grocery store.
For me a perfect summer Sunday is grabbing my groceries at Atwater, getting a snack, and sitting by the water with good company.
There are already musical swings at Places des Arts. You swing and music plays and if all the swings in the row are swinging at teh same time the song with actually sound good.
Places des Art is known for having a different festival every week pretty much for the entire summer. From comedy and jazz to Francophone music. There is ALWAYS something going on.
The first two weeks of June is Mural Fest on Blvd St Laurent- this is a street festival where they close St Laurent from rue Sherbrooke to Mont Royal Avenue. The festival is about all the murals surrounding the plateau. The city pays to have international artists come in to do some of these amazing pieces of art. The great thing is all the shops and cafes on St Laurent set up booths & terraces outside-perfect way to spends some of the summer.
Montreal has a love to being outside in the summer since our winters tend to go on for way too long so as May 1st approaches most businesses (cafes, bars, restos) are starting to set up the outdoor seating--either rooftop or patios on the sidewalks/street.
If you're into a super chill Sunday afternoon TamTams is perfect...it is a drum circle at the base of Mont Royal and you can either take part in the drumming or just sit in the field having some beverages with friends. Many people will also bring Frisbees or hula hoops or practically anything as an outside activity.
